Description: Horseradish (Armoracia rusticana) Horseradish is a member of the Cruciferae family (cabbage).
It originally comes from south-eastern Europe and Asia.
The plant is fully hardy in the UK and can be grown either for the roots to produce the famous horseradish sauce.
Or as a structural plant as the leaves can grow up to 4ft high.
The plant will be supplied (depending on time of year) as a rooted thong in summer and early autumn or a dormant thong in winter and spring.
The thong will about as thick as a pencil and minimum of 3 inch long.
Three are supplied ready for planting.
On arrival dig a hole slightly larger than the thong and plant it with the pointy end downwards in the hole, they are planted vertically and grow like a parsnip to start with.
Three to five plants are sufficient for a family who likes horseradish.
Horseradish has a hot flavour which is produced by essential oils including mustard oil, and also is high in vitamin C.
Supplied as one organically grown thong.
